WIND sponsors sailor Roos Wind’s Olympic Campaign
WIND Subsea Cable Services is sponsoring Roos Wind for the 2028 Olympic Games. Roos Wind is a Dutch sailor born and raised in Curacao and has been living in the Netherlands since 2017. She has achieved numerous victories and earned several medals throughout her career, and her upcoming challenge will be competing in the ILCA 6 class sailing at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
WIND in her sails!
Apart from being a niece to the company’s founder Jan Wind, Roos has several connections to WIND. WIND is of course a company specialising in cable logistics for the offshore wind industry. Wind is equally vital for Roos; without it, sailing becomes an even bigger challenge! A further connection is the shared Dutch heritage between Roos and the company, which is headquartered in Alkmaar in the northern part of the Netherlands. These links serve as the reason for the two to set sail together.
“We at WIND are immensely proud to sponsor this talented Dutch sailor for such a momentous event in her life. I have complete confidence in Roos for the 2028 Olympic Games and hope our collaboration will provide the wind in her sails as she sets out to compete in Los Angeles,” said Tom Nooij, CEO of WIND.
Who is Roos Wind?
Roos Wind (18 years old) was born and raised in Curacao and has been residing in Breukelen, Netherlands since 2017. Roos is the niece of Jan Wind, the founder of WIND Subsea Cable Services. In 2022, Roos Wind made a significant impression by securing third place during the Youth World Championship Sailing in Scheveningen. In December 2023, she achieved the title of world champion in sailing within the ILCA 6 International Laser Class Association under 19 category, held in Brazil. The Youth World Championship sailing is an annual event organised by World Sailing, where participants compete in various classes for world titles. With this world title, Roos concluded her youth career on a high note by being named the biggest sailing talent under 21. Since September, she has been part of the adult Dutch Sailing National Team with the intention to qualify for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
“I am incredibly grateful that WIND is sponsoring me for the campaign to reach the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. I’m also thrilled that the company will remain committed for the next four years as I train for the Olympics. It takes a lot to be among the best sailors at the senior level. You have to be physically strong to be able to sail the boat fast and you need to make smart tactical and strategic choices. In addition, every competition location is different: consider factors such as fresh/salt water, wind strength, waves and current. By training to get a little better every day, I hope to achieve my goal and reach the Olympics,” says Roos Wind regarding the agreement between the two parties.
